Becoming Balanced was created from a simple understanding: people don’t live in pieces.
Mental health, relationships, conflict, families, workplaces, communities, and systems often intersect. Yet the support available to people is frequently separated into individual spaces—one place for mental health, another for conflict, another for legal concerns, and another for education.
Becoming Balanced takes a different approach.
Founded by Shacara Burrel, JD, LCSW, Becoming Balanced brings together mental health, conflict resolution, law, and education to better understand the whole person and the environments and relationships that shape their experiences.
The law can provide structure, guidance, and options for navigating life's challenges. Mental health helps us understand the experiences, emotions, and behaviors influencing how people respond. Mediation creates space for dialogue and collaborative problem-solving. Education gives people knowledge and practical tools they can use beyond the moment.
Together, these perspectives create opportunities for people to heal relationships, resolve conflict, and restore balance.
Because with understanding comes the power to change.

Shacara Burrel, JD, LCSW, is the Founder and Chief Visionary of Becoming Balanced, LLC. Her work sits at the intersection of mental health, relationships, conflict resolution, law, and education.
Her professional journey has taken her into therapy rooms, classrooms, courtrooms, schools, community spaces, and organizations—spaces that may look very different but often reveal the same truth: people want to be seen, heard, understood, and equipped to move forward.
Shacara holds a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies, Master of Social Work, and Juris Doctor. Her multidisciplinary background allows her to see challenges through more than one lens and help people better understand themselves, one another, and the systems and environments they navigate.
Her work is grounded in the belief that with understanding comes the power to change—and that when people gain greater understanding, change can extend beyond the individual into relationships, families, organizations, communities, and systems.
